Greetings from Gubbio! In this e-newsletter read about Carlos Avila, one of our two Hospitality Monitors; our upcoming "Social Justice Arts Night"; and testimony from one of our former guests.
We are very grateful to Notre Dame des Victoires who has been hosting breakfasts for our guests on the second Friday of each month (more on this and how to get yourself or your group involved), and to the many groups and individuals who have supported us this past month!
As always your support is vital to our being able to keep the doors open. In July, we will scale back our hours due to lack of funding - we will be open from 6am-11am. If you are able to support us monthly ($2, $5 - it all adds up!) you can sign-up to do so online here.
Meet Carlos Avila
Carlos has been employed as one of our two Hospitality Monitors since October 2008. He is responsible for caring for our guests, responding to their needs and requests, and ensuring that everyone and everything stays safe. Originally from Honduras, Carlos is bilingual and has been in the U.S. seven years. He brings a very compassionate and calm presence to his work. Former Guest, SG, Testimony
I was homeless on the streets of San Francisco in 2003 for about a year-and-a-half which was really hard for me personally. I started at the homeless shelter MSC South at Fifth and Bryant...
We slept in bunk beds in a big open bay. Many women wandered around that room at night unable to sleep, talking to themselves. My sleep was interrupted on any given night. It got very tiring not getting restful sleep. I did not want to sleep in the park or other public places as I was afraid someone would jump me.
I learned about St. Boniface Church and that they would let you sleep in the pews. I started to do that to keep myself in a balance. I don’t know what I would have done if St. Boniface was not there for me.... This project is so important!!
We send out monthly updates to all those who support our work of providing sacred sleep and sanctuary to our neighbors without homes in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco.
