The Gubbio Project—Position Description
The Gubbio Project provides hospitality and outreach to homeless men and women seeking refuge from the streets during the daylight hours in St. Boniface Church in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood and St. John the Evangelist in the Mission. Inspired by Francis of Assisi’s solidarity with and love for the poor and outcast, The Gubbio Project works with people in a spirit of cooperation, connection with others, and community. “Sacred Sleep” is the primary program of The Gubbio Project, where homeless guests are invited to sleep inside of the churches from 6 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday.
The Hospitality Monitor responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Maintain a safe, clean, comfortable, and quiet program environment.
Provide security for facility during hours of operation (Monday to Friday: 6 AM – 3 PM) in a spirit of hospitality and inclusiveness.
Make supportive service referrals.
Work as a team member to ensure a quiet, clean, and safe space for sleeping during hours of operation.
Support and encourage volunteers as they work, orienting and helping them when needed.
Maintain clean, accessible, and stocked restrooms throughout the day.
Conduct inventories of supplies and donations as directed; assemble hygiene kits when needed.
Respond to medical emergencies and/or behavioral problems in collaboration with St. Anthony Foundation’s Client Safety Services.
Hours/Schedule: Must be available to work 5:45 am to 2:45 pm, Monday to Friday.
