Volunteer with Gubbio!

More than 125 volunteers from the Bay Area came to The Gubbio Project during the course of last year to help provide a respite for folks experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness.  Because of the increasing amount of people seeking a safe and quiet refuge, the support we receive from volunteers is crucial. Most volunteers work in our sanctuaries as Assistant Hospitality Monitors, where our guests rest and sleep. Volunteers may also accompany our guests as servers in our Breakfast Program, by preparing or handing out lunches at the close of our day, or through help with periodic mailings and special events. We will work with you to find a match for your availability and interests.

To sign up to volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, John Brett at volunteer@thegubbioproject.org.

Please read on to find out more about how to volunteer with The Gubbio Project.

1. I am interested in volunteering, what do I do?
The first step is to email our volunteer coordinator and arrange to attend a volunteer orientation.

Days & Times (by appointment only):

Wednesdays at 11:15am at Saint Boniface (133 Golden Gate Avenue) Thursdays at Noon at Saint John (1661--15th Street)

Duration: Approximately 30 minutes

Email: volunteer@thegubbioproject.org

The Volunteer Coordinator will discuss the various programs needing volunteers and familiarize potential volunteers with Gubbio. During the orientation, you will have an opportunity to fill out a volunteer information form to indicate your area of interest and your availability. If attendance at a regularly scheduled orientation does not work for your schedule, another time may be arranged.

2. What does Gubbio require of its volunteers?

In order to volunteer with Gubbio, you must commit to volunteer with us for at least three months; service usually entails a commitment of 2 hours weekly or bi-weekly.

3. I attended a Volunteer Orientation and have not been called to volunteer yet.
Volunteers are assigned based on volunteer openings that match their availability. Should openings become available, you will be contacted. If you have a concern, please email the volunteer coordinator.

4. I want to volunteer as a drop-in.
Volunteers must be scheduled in advance.* You can, however, be an ON-CALL volunteer if you have volunteered with us before or attended an orientation.

*St. Boniface welcomes drop-in volunteers at the close of our service day to help clean (please come 30 minutes before close). 1:30pm on M, W, Th, F, & 12:30pm on Tuesdays.

5. What if I want to volunteer with a group?

Opportunities to volunteer as a group with The Gubbio Project are limited. Please email the Volunteer Coordinator with questions related to volunteer groups at volunteer@thegubbioproject.org.

Thank you. We look to hear from you!
